Culturespaces developed the AMIEX® (Art & Music Immersive Experience) system in 2012 and held its first immersive exhibition in the Carrières de Lumières at Les Baux-de-Provence, with the help of the film directors Gianfranco Iannuzzi, Renato Gatto, and Massimiliano Siccardi.

Perfectly adapted to the venues in which they are held, the monumental exhibitions are based on the virtualization and very high-resolution projection of works of art on immense surfaces, thanks to unique digital equipment.

THE BASSINS DE LUMIÈRES PROJECT

Since 2018, Culturespaces has implemented a major project to enhance and develop the four basins in the submarine base, entrusted to it by the City of Bordeaux. Several challenges had to be overcome due to the history of the base -an old bombed building and the presence of water that is 16 m deep. In addition to restoration work and the restoration of the site and the creation of technical areas, in order to improve the visitors’ experience.

What distinguishes Culturespaces’s projects from most museum operators is that instead of displaying original works of art in static spaces, the group presents laser video projections of art as part of choreographed sound and light shows, using historic building interiors as the backdrop. Musical accompaniment have ranged from Beethoven, Wagner, and Chopin for a show on Gustav Klimt to Nina Simone and other contemporary artists for Vincent van Gogh.

Culturespaces is expanding its popular chain of digital art venues to a former banking hall in New York in 2021. Construction work on the grand ground-floor space is due to begin “shortly”. The renovation will be overseen by the architects Woods Bagot, together with historic preservation specialists Higgins Quasebarth & Partners. The Hall des Lumières digital exhibitions “will be designed to complement the venue’s interiors of marble, columns, bank tellers, stained glass windows and sculptures.
