憨人書院不同於一般的藝廊或是美術館，這裡不提供茶水服務、也不供應茶餐，經營性質類似於展覽館。這裡是為熱愛生活藝術者準備，平時開放給其他團體預約，可用來舉辦茶席、陶藝鑑賞、花道講習或是古琴表演，讓不同領域的創作者與欣賞者能以茶會友，無私的分享交流自己的生活與經驗

憨人書院讓人想起日本建築師藤森照信的茶屋，取自台灣孟宗竹所蓋成的錐體結構，透露出與自然無違融合的理念。整體環境由設計師林浚鎰所設計，流露「人境合一」的精神，更包含了藝術癡迷者未泯的玩心。

在茶屋內，從竹間縫隙灑進的陽光，使人沐浴在一片翠綠的空氣中。陳倖平以古老農具的殘件為几，在案上以柴燒壺、杯、銅打盤托等陳設了一席茶，在沉香裊裊的薰陶下，緩緩沖開今年的高山春茶。入坐禪墊品茗之間，周身所呈現出來的，由器物的質地、舌鼻的感知、空間的氛圍、人情的體貼⋯等等，總和出一種似而有形、卻又無形的美。生活的藝術，在空間裡被提煉了出來，而這正是憨人書院存在的真正意義。
